Oman Air takes delivery of fifth B737-800.
Oman Air took delivery of a new B737-800NG on 15-May-07. The aircraft has been named 'Al Buraimi', after the renowned Omani Governate bordering the United Arab Emirates.

Mr Ziad bin Karim Al Haremi, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, stated that this comes in sequence with the carrier’s to prop up and upgrade its fleet for short and medium haul operations. The new aircraft will also facilitate attainment of advantages of operating the B737 aircraft in terms of efficiency and cost saving, ensuring Oman Air’s a stronger presence in the regional aviation industry.

Additional B737 aircraft will stimulate the carrier’s future operations, and are considered as a step towards the introduction of the wide body aircraft, for planned long haul destinations “in the near future”.

The aircraft will be deployed to provide more convenient connections in the lead in to the busy Summer season, where the carrier will increase frequencies to all major destinations.

Oman Air, the national Carrier of The Sultanate of Oman is the first commercial operator in the Gulf to purchase Boeing's new version of the 737.

Oman Air currently operates international services from Muscat to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, Doha, Kuwait, Cairo, Amman, Beirut, in the Middle East. Also, as well as direct flights to destinations in India, including Mumbai, new Delhi, Kochi, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Chennai, Lucknow, and Jaipur (from 01-Jun-07). Expansion plans include routes to Chittagong and Bangladesh. Domestic flights link Muscat with Khasab and Salalah. In addition, the carrier operates codeshare flights to London, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Riyadh, Kuala Lumpur, and Jeddah.
