(CAPA): Emirates SkyCargo announced plans to launch Dubai-Venice service on 01 July 2007.
The service will coincide with Emirates’ launch of non-stop Dubai-Venice service on the same day. Operating on an Airbus A330-200, the route will offer 13 tonnes of bellyhold capacity and will initially run five-times-a-week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Frequencies will increase to a daily service from 01 September 2007.
Following a year of solid performance for Emirates SkyCargo where the carrier’s Rome offices reported 18% growth in 2007 over 2006, Venice is also expected to duplicate this success. Venice’s Airport serves one of the largest economic regions in the country. Venice Airport is Italy’s fourth largest, handling nearly half of the country’s total freight traffic. In this important commercial region, 43.7% of freight is transported by air.
In addition, the city provides excellent access to intermodal transportation channels and, with the opening of the EU to include Eastern Europe, Venice now sits in a strong strategic position for managing trade from Italy’s North-East and from neighbouring countries Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
To lead the operation in Venice, Emirates SkyCargo has appointed Giovanna Cardinali as its new Cargo Manager. Cardinali will report to Danilo Bonfanti, Emirates SkyCargo's Cargo Manager for Italy.
Exports from Venice to Dubai will consist of consumer goods, industrial equipment and garments while imports will consist of textiles, electronics, computer parts, fresh fruit and vegetables.
