The drill was built on the scenario of an aircraft incident, aiming to check airport personnel and supporting emergency responders’ readiness on a regular basis to ensure they are fully prepared in the event of a real occurrence. Emergency crews sprang into action, as they responded to the highly-realistic simulation of an aircraft incident at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The exercise was created to ensure the effectiveness of the emergency plan, and help local emergency organizations gain practice and preparedness for a mutual aid response. Ahmad Al Haddabi, Senior Vice President of Airports Operations at Abu Dhabi Airports Company commented: “The exercise, codenamed -Operation Cyclone- was one of several annual safety initiatives taken at Abu Dhabi International Airport. It is a part of ADAC’s strong commitment to ensuring the highest standards of contingency preparedness and safety, which forms the backbone of our operations. We are pleased with the turnout of this emergency exercise, as it served as an excellent booster to the level of professionalism and communication we have achieved amongst our teams.” The exercise included the participation of Etihad Airways, Department of Transport (DoT), The Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Minister of Interior – Abu Dhabi Police, Airport Police, the UAE National Crisis & Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) and the Civil Defense.
