Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group increases member base to 22 with Abu Dhabi Airports Company
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG) has welcomed the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) as the newest addition to its high profile group of members.

This brings the total to 22 members who have committed to sustainable development of their operations.

The ADSG, which was set up by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) in 2008 with the support of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi Emirate, is a membership organization whose mission is to promote sustainability management by providing learning and knowledge sharing opportunities for government, private and non-profit organizations across Abu Dhabi. Each member commits to adopting sustainable management practices and publishing an annual report that explains its sustainability approach and evaluates its environmental, economic and social performance. Since its establishment in 2008, the ADSG has attracted 22 members, now including ADAC.

Speaking about the ADSG, H.E Majid Al Mansouri, Secretary General of EAD, said, "We live in an age where financial profitability and efficiency key performance indicators are no longer enough. With ADSG, we encourage other organisations to follow ADAC's example and join the Group as every organisation has a responsibility to the community and to the environment in which it operates, and is now judged by its stakeholders accordingly. The ADSG is open to those seriously willing to practice and champion sustainability in Abu Dhabi."

James E. Bennett, ADAC's Chief Executive Officer, stated, "We strongly believe in operating with the long term growth and sustainability of Abu Dhabi in mind. At ADAC, we are looking forward to working closely with other ADSG members, as we move towards our objective to have the best-in-class airports and facilities that always operate in a socially and environmentally responsible manner."

ADAC is supporting efforts to spread awareness among the community on smart energy and water usage tips by supporting EAD's "Turn it off!" campaign. This initiative tackles unnecessary energy and water waste, and is running for one year at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, with the potential of reaching more than 11 million residents and travellers. EAD and ADAC are asking the community to address any wasteful behaviour and to adopt wiser habits. Tips are illustrated through creative 3-dimensional installations, such as a giant light bulb at the entrance of Terminal 1 and a giant water tap in Terminal 3 Arrival. These cleverly illustrated steps can help people make major savings in water use and carbon emissions.

The ADSG consists of: Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, Department of Municipal Affairs, Department of Economic Development, Department of Transport, Health Authority - Abu Dhabi, Urban Planning Council, Zones Corp, Al Dar, Aramex, Dolphin, Etihad Airways, Masdar, Mubadala, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Sorouh, Emirates Foundation and Khalifa Fund.
