Yemen contracts Lufthansa for MRO outsourcing

Yemen contracts Lufthansa for MRO outsourcing
(CAPA) The national flag carrier of Yemen, Yemenia, has selected Lufthansa Consulting as a strategic advisor for outsourcing its Aircraft Maintenance unit. The airline expects to significantly reduce its maintenance costs, to establish a professional relationship between the airline and its MRO subsidiary and to boost its third party business.

The agreement was signed in December 2006, with the project commencing in January 2007, as announced by Capt Abdulkhalek Alkadi, chairman of the Board of Yemen Airways.

Walter Schmitt-Rennkamp, Project Head Comsultant of Lufthansa said: "The Conceptual Design, describing the future scope and shape of the new MRO company, has already been finalized by Lufthansa Consulting's experts. They will continue to assist Yemenia in developing the detailed organizational setup and in preparing the implementation plan for the new business unit. The entire conversion is expected to be completed within six months".

Capt Abdulkhalek Alkadi added, "With the formation of an independent MRO business unit, Yemenia continues its successful strategy for business segmentation. Other business units will follow the MRO example".

Yemenia is the national flag carrier in Yemen and has emerged as a fast growing airline in the region was founded in 1961 and operates scheduled passengers and cargo services to more than 30 domestic and international destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Far East. Its fleet includes B737-800, A310 and A330 aircraft as well as ten A350-800 on order.
