Libya commences construction of new airport in Tripoli

(CAPA)Construction has commenced on a one billion Euro International Airport in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
The project will have capacity to handle 20 million passengers per year once completed. A car park with a capacity of 4,400 spaces is also under construction.
The work is being carried out by a consortium of six companies consisting of Turkish TAV Construction, Brazilian Odebrecht and Lebanese Consolidated Contractors Company. Construction is planned be completed in 24 months. The 1,165 hectare site will be able to handle up to 100 aircraft simultaneously.
The Libyian Government has set aside an additional two billion Euros to modernise other airports in Libya.
Libya handled 1.5 million air travellers in 2005, an increase of 14% from the previous year. The country has seen significant growth in its aviation market in recent years.
