Abu Dhabi International Airport undertakes USD6.8 billion expansion
(CAPA) Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) reports Abu Dhabi International Airport USD6.8 billion expansion programme is progressing well, and aims to increase the airports capacity to 20 million passengers p/a by 2010.

Peter Hoslin, ADAC’s Head of Marketing stated, "Routes comes at a time when Abu Dhabi International Airport is witnessing strong growth in traffic and gaining mounting recognition as an airport of choice. International airlines are definitely considering the value of a share of the Middle East’s aviation boom and we have a lot to offer them. Both our airports [Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Ain International Airport] are strategically located at the cross road of major international routes. They serve as the gateway to the UAE capital, which is investing billions of dollars into building a dynamic centre of business and tourism.”

Abu Dhabi International Airport continues to record strong growth in passenger and cargo traffic and is now the focus of a massive USD6.8 billion programme of development and expansion that will see it transform into a aviation hub to support Abu Dhabi’s ambitions to become a centre for investment and tourism.

Statistics for the first half of 2007 have reflected record growth in both passenger and cargo traffic. Total passenger traffic reached the half-year milestone of 3.071 million, an increase of 27% over the 2.414 million passengers in the same period in 2006. In the same period, aircraft movements increased 7% to 39,300. Cargo volume reached 149,210 tons, a 34% growth over last year.
