(c) Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation: Jet Airways inaugurated scheduled operations at Kuwait International Airport effective 05 January 2008 with the arrival of its first flight from Delhi to Kuwait operated by Boeing 737-800.
The expansion of Jet Airways network to include Kuwait is part of wider initiatives to develop air traffic between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of India, within the framework of the air transport convention agreed between the two countries. It is further evidence of the success of the Open Skies policy adopted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to attract and encourage airlines to operate at Kuwait International Airport. The inaugural flight was welcomed with a ceremony at Kuwait International Airport, attended by DGCA Engineering Department Director, Mr. Sami Ahalibi; Acting Director of Operations, Mr. Walid Al-Najdy; Director of Administration, Mr. Abdullah Benzayed; and a number of DGCA officials. Also in attendance was HE the Consul of the Republic of India to the State of Kuwait as well as dignitaries from the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. Jet Airways currently operates two services per day from Kuwait, one to Delhi and one to Cochin, and plans to increase services to four flights per day to service a Kuwait-Mumbai (Bombay) route in the near future.
