nas air takes delivery of ninth aircraft
nas air, the second domestic LCC in Saudi Arabia, took delivery of its ninth aircraft, a new A320, on 13-Dec-08. The carrier plans to increase its fleet to 19 A320s by 2011. The carrier has a mixed fleet of narrowbody aircraft, with many operated under wet lease. Of its six A320s, two are operated by Tunisian carrier, Nouvelair, two by Spanish carrier, LTE International Airways, and one by Menajet, which is based in Lebanon. A single B737-800 is leased from Travel Service Airlines (TSA), while two B757s are leased from TSA’s LCC subsidiary, SmartWings.

The new aircraft will be the second A320 to be based at Riyadh International Airport, the carrier’s major hub. The aircraft will be used to reinforce the carrier’s domestic network, as well as launch international services.

A launch date for international services has not yet been announced by the carrier. Domestic LCC rival, Sama, currently operates to seven international destinations via charter operations, as regulatory restrictions prevent the LCC from operating scheduled international services.
