19-Aug-2009 Dubai Airports started off the second half of 2009 on a positive note, with Dubai International registering a 12.6 per cent increase in passenger traffic in July. It is the highest monthly growth-rate recorded since May 2008 (13.8 per cent) and the second consecutive month of double-digit growth in passenger traffic this year following the 10.3 per cent rise recorded in June.

18-Aug-2009 Air Arabia, the first and largest low-cost carrier (LCC) in the Middle East and North Africa, announced today that its 300-room three-star Centro Hotel at Sharjah Airport will finish construction by April 2010. The concrete structure for all the four floors of the hotel has been completed and the hotel is anticipated to be completed below budget, highlighting the project’s operational efficiency.

Cairo International Airport has joined the front rank of world airports with the recent opening of its massive new passenger facility, Terminal 3. Designed to handle a maximum of 14 million passengers a year, Cairo Terminal 3 is the new home of 27 international and domestic airlines carrying 11,000 passengers each day on some 200 scheduled flights.

Starting today, Air Arabia Maroc will be operating weekly flights on Monday, Thursday and Saturday from Schiphol to Casablanca. This service will also fly on Tuesdays from 24 August. From next winter season at the end of October, Casablanca will be accessible from Schiphol seven days a week. The aircraft type to be used for these flights is the Airbus A320.

Waha Capital has taken a 50% stake in the aircraft leasing joint venture company AerVenture, which was established in 2006 by AerCap. Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) released (23-Jun-2009) the May-2009 traffic figures for Abu Dhabi International Airport, which show a year on year increase of 6.6% in passenger traffic. Aircraft movements increased by 9.4% whilst cargo recorded a 6.4% increase compared to the same month last year. Passenger traffic for the year to date (YTD) shows an increase of 8.2%, with 3,793,693 passengers handled through the airport during this period.

Airbus announced commitments during the 2009 Paris Air Show for 127 aircraft, valued at some USD12.9 billion. These commitments include firm orders for 58 aircraft worth almost US$6.4 billion, plus 'Memoranda of Understanding' (MoU) agreements for a further 69 aircraft totalling USD6.5 billion.
