Royal Jordanian will resume its regular flights to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, on June 2, after a 7-year suspension in operations between the two countries (which stopped in 2003) due to the weak economic feasibility of the route over the past years.

On March 28 this year, Royal Jordanian will inaugurate regular direct flights to Madinah Munawwarh, Saudi Arabia, with initial two weekly flights. President/CEO Hussein Dabbas said that opening this route is an advantage to RJ passengers who wish to visit Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah.

After a net loss of USD33 million in 2008, Royal Jordanian’s challengeshave continued into 2009, with the carrier reporting a loss of approximately USD12 million for the three months to 31-Mar-2009. The result is significantly worse than the USD6.2 million net loss reported for the same period last year. CEO, Samer Majali, has attributed the result to a decline in both passenger numbers and yield.

The general assembly of Royal Jordanian held its annual ordinary and extraordinary meetings on 16-Apr-09 16, at Hyatt Amman hotel, headed by vice-chairman of RJ's Board of Directors Al-Sharif Faris Sharaf. Attending were RJ President/CEO Samer Majali, members of the board of directors, Ernst and Young auditors of RJ accounts, the companies’ general comptroller and a number of shareholders owning 64 % of the company capital, which amounts to 84.3 million shares/JDs.

Royal Jordanian started implementing the new cargo IT platform of CHAMP Cargosystems- Cargospot, starting 01-Apr. Thus the airline completed the second phase of the system's cut-over, with the first phase being the cargo handling mode at the cargo terminal, which has been operational since early Jan-2009 for all carriers that RJ handles at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA).

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) awarded (25-Mar-09) Royal Jordanian (RJ) the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) certification, following the successful completion of a comprehensive audit of all ground-handling operations at Queen Alia International Airport and at RJ’s headquarters in Amman.

Last week a new Airbus A319, named Ajloun, one of the main cities in northern Jordan, joined the RJ fleet. It has been colored with the oneworld alliance livery on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of establishing the alliance, of which RJ is part since 01-Apr-07.
