Middle East Airlines today announced the implementation of the first ever integrated baggage management system in Lebanon. The new system, provided by aviation IT specialist SITA, will reduce the level of mishandled baggage and will facilitate security at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport.

The prestigious Air Transport World magazine ranked Middle East Airlines (MEA) the 18th carrier in the world in terms of net profits in 2008. The magazine, which published tables of the leading 25 airlines around the world in terms of size of fleet and number of passengers, said that MEA recorded a net profit of $89.463 million in 2008 ahead of Republic Airways Holding and behind Virgin Blue Airlines.

Middle East Airlines recibe cinco Airbus 330 The chairman of Middle East Airlines (MEA) Mohamad El-Hout said (25-Mar-09) that the airline was expected to receive five Airbus 330 in May and one Airbus 320 in April of this year as part of a plan to expand the fleet. El-Hout made the comments after meeting with the president of Airbus Tome Enders, who is currently visiting Beirut.

Lebanon’s national carrier, Middle East Airlines (MEA) has taken delivery of its first A330-200 aircraft directly purchased from Airbus. The aircraft was handed over to Mohamad El-Hout, Chairman and Director General of MEA, by Habib Fekih, President of Airbus Middle East.

MEA is expected to achieve $45-50 million profit for 2007, compared to $46 million and $40 million for 2005 and 2006, respectively. In June, MEA will receive the first of 10 Airbuses that it has contracted through 2009 (6 aircraft) and 2010 (3 aircraft).

(c) Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation: Middle East Airlines (MEA) and Etihad Airways signed a codeshare agreement on 26-Nov-07. The deal, which comes into effect on 14 January 2008, gives air travellers a choice of 14 weekly services between the Lebanese and United Arab Emirates capitals.
